GCLID

What Is the GCLID Parameter?

GCLID, or Google Click Identifier, is a special URL parameter automatically added to each link that directs a user to a specific destination set in the ad. This parameter allows Google Analytics to track detailed information about the advertising campaign, such as the number of clicks. A typical symptom of a malfunctioning GCLID parameter is incorrect or missing data in Google Analytics 4. If the GCLID parameter does not work properly, GA4 cannot accurately associate Google Ads clicks with other metrics such as user engagement, sessions, conversions, and more.

How to Activate the Use of the GCLID Parameter

Admin > Account Settings > Auto-tagging section > Check the option Tag the URL that people click through from my ad > Click Save.
