Google Ads has introduced a feature to exclude placements in Performance Max campaigns. This is a major and beneficial change, enabling even more accurate optimization of advertising activities.

Caution here: placement exclusions in Performance Max Campaigns are added at the whole account level, be careful not to exclude valuable traffic.

“Placements” is one of GDN’s ad targeting options. Choosing this option, allows you to display ads on selected applications or their categories, channels and videos on the Youtube platform, as well as on selected websites. There are two ways to exclude placements:

  1. Go to the Google Ads Panel, create a Performance Max campaign (or enter an existing one), and then select > Content > Placement exclusions
  2. Google Ads Panel > Tools and settings > Content suitability > Placement exclusions

To exclude a website, Youtube channels and videos, or apps, it is possible to enter the exact URL or use the “Browse” option to find exclusion suggestions. All app categories, on the other hand, can be excluded with a single click by entering the code mobileappcategory::69500 in the appropriate field.
