Meta announced that in the first half of 2025 it removed around 10 million accounts impersonating popular creators or duplicating other people’s content. The company also stated that this “network clean-up” will continue, with a strong focus on rewarding creators who publish original content rather than copies.
In addition to eliminating fake profiles, Meta has taken action against accounts artificially inflating engagement. This includes reducing the visibility of their comments, cutting post reach, and disabling monetization options.
What does this mean for you?
First, you may notice a drop in your follower count. This is a natural effect of removing fake profiles and bots that previously inflated your metrics.
Second, if you’ve been relying on artificial engagement methods (such as buying likes or comments), expect your content to become less visible. Meta is actively limiting reach, reducing comment visibility, and cutting monetization for such practices.
Third, this update strengthens brand and profile protection, lowering the risk of impersonation and helping ensure that authentic voices are prioritized on the platform.
