11 July 2025

It wasn’t even a week since the last Google algorithm update and new features in Google Search Console, and now we have to face more revolutionary changes. First, Google announced that from July 10th, it will start indexing posts from Instagram and Facebook. Then, Reuters agency shared leaks about OpenAI’s extremely ambitious plans: to create its own browser to break Google Chrome’s dominance. Let’s take a look at the most important SEO events of the past week.

Google Has Started Indexing Posts from Facebook and Instagram

Google will now index posts on Meta-owned platforms: Facebook and Instagram. Officially, from July 10th; unofficially, some users claim they saw results from these platforms in SERPs before this date – so we can expect that July 10th marks the final rollout, and all posts are now being indexed. But wait, are all posts really indexed? No – Google has clearly outlined the requirements for content from Instagram or Facebook to appear in search results:

  • the account must be public,
  • the account must be marked as “professional”, not private,
  • the user must be 18 or older.

What does this mean for Google, SEOs, and your business?

GoogleSEOsYour Business
For Google, the biggest challenge related to indexing social media posts is content inflation on the internet – even without Facebook and Instagram, indexing content is already challenging (and costly). Additionally, there is the risk of users leaving Google’s ecosystem and getting stuck in Meta’s ecosystem, leading to smaller profits, for example, from search ads.For SEOs, the biggest potential challenge may be increased content competition in the SERPs; especially if Google’s algorithms favor short, dynamic content from social media over complex, expert articles. On the other hand, this opens the door to ranking social media posts on purpose. From your business’s perspective, the changes may mean more competition in search but also the broadening of available channels – after all, if you’re already promoting your products or services on Instagram, now you have the opportunity to break into the SERPs as well.

As part of your preparations, it’s also worth reviewing your existing content – if you’ve been posting the same content on your Instagram or Facebook profile as on your blog, word for word, you risk content cannibalization. If you’re not doing this yet, make sure to add text to your posts, not just images, and take care of the alt attributes – you can set them both on Facebook and Instagram. Above all, however, track the impact of these changes on your website and social media content – see how they practically affect your business and adjust your actions. 😉

OpenAI Plans to Create a Browser That Will Overthrow Google Chrome

The next news that hit us like a bolt from the blue comes from Reuters agency, which reports that OpenAI is not only planning to release a new browser that will break Google Chrome’s dominance, but is also very close to putting this plan into life.

According to reports, OpenAI’s browser will be strongly based on artificial intelligence. If it turns out to be a hit and breaks Google’s dominance, we would have quite a revolution – after all, Google Chrome currently handles over 50% of web traffic.

If you follow SEO and marketing news, you surely remember the cookieless boom, which was supposed to be a major revolution. Interestingly, during the time when marketers discussed how data collection would look after the removal of third-party cookies, only… Google Chrome supported them among all the most popular browsers. In short, changes in one browser affected the entire marketing industry. If OpenAI managed to steal the hearts of current Google Chrome users, it would break not only the dominance but primarily Google’s monopoly in dictating the rules – this would be a true revolution in digital marketing. But how will it really turn out? We’ll find out soon, of course, assuming Reuters’ reports are true.
