Until now, interacting with language models mostly involved conversation: pasting text and waiting for a reply. Claude Cowork changes this paradigm. It is an application (currently available on macOS) that you grant access to a specific folder on your computer.

From that moment on, Claude stops being just a passive advisor and becomes an active agent. It can read, edit, create, and organize files directly on your hard drive. Claude Cowork is a preview of a future where AI ceases to be just a chatbot in a browser window and becomes an integral part of the operating system. Although it is currently a tool for early adopters—requiring supervision and patience—its potential for saving time is immense.
