WebMCP in Early Preview: Google Prepares for the Era of Agentic AI! – AI News – #3 February 2026d-tags
Google has officially entered the "Agentic Web" era by releasing an early preview of WebMCP. This new standard aims to fundamentally transform how Artificial Intelligence interacts with websites. Moving beyond simple content consumption, AI agents are gaining structured tools to perform specific actions—from purchases to complex bookings—bypassing traditional graphical interfaces entirely.

Is the Hype Around llms.txt Over? The Future Belongs to Agents

Until recently, the SEO and AI industry was buzzing about llms.txt. It was heralded as the new communication standard, designed to help Large Language Models (LLMs) easier “read” website content. However, technological reality is verifying these assumptions at a rapid pace. It turns out that static content availability is not enough. The real revolution is heading toward Agentic AI—autonomous agents that don’t just consume content but act on behalf of the user.

This direction was accurately predicted by Wojciech Urban, Senior SEO & R&D Specialist at our company. In his analysis earlier this year, he stated directly:

“If we were to look for a new standard or technical solution that would facilitate integration and cooperation between our site and AI tools, I would bet more on MCP – Model Context Protocol. (…) The idea of an llms.txt file doesn’t bring anything new; AI crawlers manage without it.”

Wojciech pointed out at the time that the future lies in using MCP to conduct entire purchasing processes via a chatbot, without the need to ever visit the store’s website. Today’s announcement from Google regarding WebMCP serves as a strong confirmation of this vision.

What Is WebMCP and How Does It Work?

WebMCP (Web Model Context Protocol) is Google’s answer to the growing need for structured interaction between websites and AI agents. Until now, bots had to “guess” how to navigate a page by analyzing the DOM structure, which was prone to errors and broke easily with code changes.

WebMCP creates a direct communication bridge. It allows website owners to define specific tools and instructions, telling the AI agent exactly where and how to perform an action.

Two Pillars of the New Standard

As part of WebMCP, Google proposes two new APIs that form the foundation of the “Agentic Web”:

  1. Declarative API: Allows for the execution of standard actions defined directly within HTML forms. This is a streamlined way to indicate to an agent where to input data or click “submit.”
  2. Imperative API: A solution for more advanced scenarios, enabling dynamic interactions that require JavaScript execution.

Thanks to these solutions, agents gain speed, reliability, and precision that are impossible to achieve with traditional website scraping.

What Does This Mean in Practice? Use Cases

The introduction of WebMCP is a milestone toward the “headless” internet. For the end user, this means convenience; for businesses, it means the necessity to adapt to a new model of sales and service.

Key areas of application include:

  • Next-Gen E-commerce: A user asks an AI assistant to “buy black sports shoes in size 42.” Using WebMCP, the agent finds the product, configures variants, and finalizes the payment in the background—without a human ever clicking through the store.
  • Advanced Customer Support: Agents can automatically create detailed service tickets, filling in technical details on behalf of the user, drastically reducing resolution times.
  • Travel and Reservations: Searching for flights, filtering results, and making bookings are done based on structured data, eliminating the risk of errors in dates or locations.

Is Your Website Ready for the Revolution?

WebMCP is currently available in an early access version for Chrome developers. However, this is a clear signal of where the Mountain View giant is heading. The year 2026 will not be the year of AI “reading” the internet, but the year of AI “acting” within it.

As our expert Wojciech noted: “This will be a revolution worth preparing for.” Websites that implement standards like MCP will gain a competitive edge, becoming “visible” and “operable” for the new generation of digital assistants.
