Mark Zuckerberg has long envisioned a future where inconvenient smartphones are replaced by stylish glasses that seamlessly blend the digital world with reality. The latest and so far boldest step in this direction is the launch of Meta Ray-Ban Display – smart glasses with a built-in display and a revolutionary control system. Is this truly the beginning of a new era in wearable technology? The live presentation showed that the path to this future might be bumpier than it seems.

Awkward Meta Ray-Ban Display Launch, or When Technology Refuses to Cooperate

During the Meta Connect 2025 conference, where the glasses were unveiled, a series of unfortunate events occurred. In the middle of a live demonstration, which the audience had chosen over a slide show, Mark Zuckerberg unsuccessfully tried to answer a WhatsApp video call. The interface stopped responding, and the visibly embarrassed Meta CEO admitted: “I don’t know what to tell you.” The issues, explained by Wi-Fi troubles, also appeared when attempting to interact with AI on the cheaper glasses model.

This false start, while inconvenient for the company, should not entirely overshadow the potential hidden in the new product. So, let’s put aside the failed presentation and take a closer look at what the Meta Ray-Ban Display promise on paper.

What Can the New Meta Ray-Ban Display Glasses Really Do?

Meta Ray-Ban Display is much more than just glasses with a camera, as we knew from the previous generation. It’s a comprehensive device aimed at freeing us from constantly looking at our phone screens.

The Display Inside the Ray-Ban Display Lens – A Discreet Window into the Digital World

At the heart of the device is a color, high-resolution display embedded in the right lens. It is designed to deliver key information without diverting your eyes from your surroundings. Its brightness adjusts automatically to lighting conditions thanks to Transitions® photochromic lenses, while a low outward light emission (just 2%) ensures privacy.

On the display, you can see among others:

  • Notifications from your smartphone, text and multimedia messages (WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram).
  • Visual responses from Meta AI, e.g., step-by-step instructions.
  • Real-time camera preview with zoom functionality.
  • Pedestrian navigation with map.
  • Live conversation transcription and translation.
  • Music player interface.

Meta Neural Band – Control with Thought… or Actually a Muscle

The second groundbreaking component of the set is the Meta Neural Band wristband. It uses electromyography (EMG) technology to interpret electrical signals generated by muscles. Simply put, the band reads subtle finger and hand movements and converts them into commands.

Thanks to this, users can control the glasses with intuitive gestures, without touching the temples or taking out the phone:

  • Pinching fingers: menu option selection.
  • Sliding thumb sideways: scrolling lists and notifications.
  • Wrist rotation: volume or camera zoom adjustment.

This technology is designed to be precise enough to eventually allow text input by “drawing” letters with a finger on any surface.

Design, Specifications, and Battery

Meta, in cooperation with EssilorLuxottica, ensured the technology is housed in an iconic form. The glasses are based on the Ray-Ban Wayfarer model, weighing only 69 grams.

  • Battery: the glasses offer up to 6 hours of mixed-use runtime, with the included power bank case extending this to 30 hours. The Meta Neural Band wristband is said to last up to 18 hours on a single charge.
  • Camera and sound: equipped with a 12-megapixel camera and five microphones to ensure high-quality audio during calls and AI interactions.
  • Privacy: as with the previous generation, an LED indicator notifies others when the camera is active.

Price and Availability of Meta Ray-Ban Display. When and For How Much?

The Meta Ray-Ban Display set, including the glasses and Neural Band, is priced at $799 USD, which converts to approximately 2900 PLN before taxes.

Sales in the United States begin on September 30, 2025. In Europe (United Kingdom, France, Italy) and Canada, the glasses are expected to appear in early 2026. Poland is not currently on the list of countries covered by the launch.

Meta Ray-Ban Display Glasses: A Breakthrough with Obstacles

Meta Ray-Ban Display is undoubtedly a fascinating piece of technology that brings us closer to the vision of true augmented reality glasses. The combination of a discreet display with intuitive gesture control is a step in the right direction.

However, the failed live demonstration casts a shadow over the launch and raises questions about the product’s reliability in everyday use. Despite its enormous potential, Meta still needs to prove that its revolutionary technology is ready to meet reality. One thing is certain – the race to define the future of personal computing has just gained momentum.
