In some countries, users of Google Merchant Center can take advantage of a new functionality - the best sellers report. How does it work and how can you benefit from it?

The newest report is supposed to make it easier for advertisers to select appropriate products and brands that are worth investing in and including in their offers. Although for the time being the report is available only in four countries (the United Kingdom, Germany, the USA and France) it’s expected to be expanded in the near future.

The best sellers report - what is it?

To put you in the picture, the report informs about best sellers, meaning products and brands that are the most popular on Shopping ads over a given period of time. The data is updated on a weekly basis. It’s worth mentioning that the report doesn’t take into account products or brands that are accessible only in one store.

How can you benefit from the new best sellers report?

First of all, with its use you can analyze products that are the most popular among customers and then include some of them in your offer. In order to facilitate the process of choosing items that match your product range, Google Merchant Center enabled filtering goods by Google categories or countries. Moreover, the report provides you with information about the elements of your offer which are currently ranked among the most popular and desired ones. This, in turn, makes it easier for you to tailor your bids or budget to the situation.

What does the new Google Merchant Center report look like?

In order to access your best sellers report, go to Google Merchant Center and navigate to the Growth tab. Google Merchant Center - the Bestsellers report

The report comprises data such as:

  • your position based on popularity,
  • the change in items' popularity over the last week (change in product popularity over 7 days),
  • photos,
  • title,
  • the GTIN number,
  • category,
  • brand,
  • brand inventory status,
  • product inventory status,
  • price range.
On the screenshots below you can see exemplary report results for selected countries and product categories. The report can be downloaded by clicking the “download” button in the top right corner of the table. It’s worth analyzing best sellers and their results on particular markets as it may be helpful in devising your own sales strategy. Consumer behavior doesn’t differ much in most European countries. Therefore, being able to access best sellers in places similar to your domestic market or the most popular items offered by your competition will enable you not only to run a much better SEO campaign but also to achieve much more satisfying results.
