What is Pinging? – Definition
Pinging consists of submitting new pages so that the search engine robots can index them and, as a result, increase their visibility in the search results. Simply put, the pinging process itself is nothing more than informing the search engine crawlers that new content has appeared on a website.
Pinging in Practice
First, a ping, i.e. a request to a server, is sent. This is when the search engine robots are informed about new content on a website. If the crawlers evaluate them as relevant, then the web page is indexed.
Pinging has been widely used for several years in the SEO process – especially among bloggers and news portals. Nowadays, it is considered more like an outdated practice as it no longer brings the desired results.
