Schema.org

What is Schema.org? – Definition

Schema.org is a set of defined terms aimed at improving the interpretation of the web content by Google crawlers. It contains a series of tags which are used to mark schematically the structured data on a given page. They translate web content into a language understood by the crawlers.

Schema.org - selected tags

The complete list of tags is constantly being expanded. Among the most popular ones, it is worth mentioning:

  • books,
  • recipes,
  • movies,
  • organizations,
  • persons,
  • places,
  • local businesses,
  • products,
  • events.

Implementation of Schema

The schema.org tags improve the appearance of the website in search results through Rich Snippet and Knowledge Graph. There are currently three ways to implement structured data tags:

    1. microdata (inserted in the HTML code),
    2. RDF (HTML5 extension),
  1. JSON-LD (JavaScript object notation – method recommended by Google).

More information can be found on the Schema.org website.
