Since even Screaming Frog has gone with the times and (spoiler alert!) changed its design, there’s no doubt that the 19.0 update is quite an event. So, let us show you what caught our attention.
Screaming Frog 19 – New Features
New Design
We all loved Screaming Frog’s retro design, but we have to admit that the new version looks neat and interesting. In addition, the crawl scope functions (such as crawl a subdomain, subfolder, all subdomains) have been moved to the main navigation bar, right next to the place to enter the page URL. Convenient and practical!

Crawl Segmentation
One of the most interesting new features is the ability to segment the crawl. You can sort the data, for example, by URL, but also by any data collected during the crawl – including external API data. Thanks to this feature, you can sort data, for instance, by traffic from GSC. This gives you the opportunity to conduct a more complete analysis and to draw logical conclusions about dependencies. So, you can check that indeed, a hundred pages on a given site do not have a meta description, and determine that they all are pages from a single segment (e.g. tags).

A new “Segments” tab is available, which allows you to quickly see which segments are experiencing problems.

Visual Custom Extraction
Another new feature is Visual Custom Extraction. How can it enhance your work? With Screaming Frog, you can now gather information, for example, about what category a product is assigned to (for example, to create the segments described above). Previously, you had to think about the XPath or REGEX path. And, now all you have to do is highlight with the cursor, which will be a big help for those who want to save time and are not necessarily comfortable with advanced technical tasks.

Is Upgrading Screaming Frog to Version 19.0 Worth It?
It is. The three functions mentioned above are just a few examples of the new features in one of the best web crawling tools. 3D visualization, new filters (which, for instance, tell you when the header structure is inappropriate, or which pages have JavaScript problems, or when the meta description is outside the <head> section) are definitely worth checking out.
Thus, our answer is yes — download the update and make use of the new possibilities. After all, in SEO you always need to be on your toes!
