June was surprisingly quiet in the SEO world—there were no leaks or core updates. But a few new things are worth noting, so let’s get started.
As part of the Perspectives feature in search results, Google now shows us posts from Instagram. We’ve been observing this situation for about two weeks now. So far, the SERPs were dominated by results from Twitter (X), YouTube, and Reddit. We’re watching to see if this changes, but it’s worth considering investing in IG for SEO.
As you can see, the SEO title doesn’t work perfectly yet (as in “Instagram”), but generally, it’s a topic worth following for the next months.
On June 20, Google’s next anti-spam update began. The update implementation lasted a week and ended on Thursday, June 27, 2024. However, this is not an update related to link-building, AI, or content generation. It focuses on some techniques that violate Google’s policies, but who, how, and why will be affected, specifically – this we don’t know. Keep an eye on it, and if you notice your rankings getting worse, it’ll be a clear sign that it’s time to re-familiarize yourself with Google’s rules! And maybe bite into E-E-A-T a bit more?

According to Barry Schwartz from SE Roundtable, Google has developed a new look for AI Overview and is testing it on a trial group. For some users, the cards are only displayed after clicking the “Show more” button (picture on the left); for others, they are visible at the top (right picture). It looks pretty good!
Test group vs regular view:
It’s clear that Google is working hard on this project, so the end result may be a bit less scary than Reddit predicted just a month ago (check our SEO News #5 to see what the fuss was about).
