SSL

What is SSL? – Definition

SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is a network protocol used to encrypt data between a client and a server. Currently, SSL is considered the standard of secure communications between computers across a network. It is commonly implemented on sites where users are allowed to submit their personal data. Encryption is achieved using cryptographic keys. The longer the key, the harder it is to crack and decrypt the data.

SSL is used in practically all online stores.

How to Know if a Website is Secure?

To check if a website has an SSL certificate implemented, you can do it by verifying if the URL starts with “https” in the browser address bar. Some browsers also label HTTPS websites with a green ‘Secure’ lock. You need to be careful though, some hackers use green locks despite the sites not being fully secured.

SSL and SEO

An SSL certificate is one of Google ranking factors, which means that it has an impact on your website’s position in search results.
