Link building

Challenge

  • vidaXL needed an SEO partner who could prove results across multiple international markets, not just one local domain.
  • The client tested several agencies in parallel, giving Delante 5 markets and 3 months to show measurable impact.
  • The initial scope focused mainly on off-site SEO, so every action had to be precise: market-specific URLs, keywords, link sources and daily performance monitoring.

Solution

  • We built a scalable international link building process with a separate strategy for each market instead of one copied campaign.
  • For every country, we selected priority URLs, keywords, link sources and action pace, then worked in 7-day sprints with daily ranking monitoring.
  • After the first results, the cooperation expanded from 5 to 9 and later to 16 markets, with additional onsite and content recommendations supporting the off-site strategy.

About the client

Logo vidaXL

vidaXL is an international Home & Garden eCommerce brand offering products for the home, garden, interiors, outdoor living, leisure and everyday household needs. For a brand operating across many local domains, SEO could not be managed as one central campaign copied across countries.

Each market had a different domain strength, competitive landscape, seasonality and product priority. That is why the project required a repeatable process, but with local execution for every language version.

The scale of vidaXL’s business meant that SEO had to be managed across multiple local domains, languages and market conditions at the same time.

vidaXLTimeline of the cooperation  2020The 5-market testThe cooperation started in 2020 with an SEO inquiry covering 32 markets. vidaXL decided to test several agencies in parallel, assigning selected markets to each partner. Delante was responsible for 5 language versions: vidaxl.pl, vidaxl.lv, vidaxl.fi, vidaxl.si and vidaxl.gr.The project was led on Delante’s side by Gosia Kwiecień, then SEO Team Leader and now COO at Delante, and Katarzyna Śliwa, then Off-Site SEO Specialist and now Senior Off-Site SEO Specialist. At this stage, the key was to select the right landing pages, usually 3 to 8 priority URLs per market, match them with relevant keywords and run off-site activities in a way that reflected the competitiveness of each country.  After 3 monthsThe test passedAfter 3 months, the first ranking improvements in competitive indoor and outdoor categories gave vidaXL a reason to continue the cooperation. Delante passed the test period and the project moved into a broader collaboration.  Late 2020From 5 to 9 marketsIn December 2020, vidaXL expanded the scope by adding 4 more markets: the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia and Lithuania. At that point, we also started providing regular technical onsite recommendations.“Thanks for the reports! I’m happy to see the changes for the smaller countries as well now, even some nr. 1 positions!”— SEO & Content Specialist, vidaXL  2021Onsite consulting and content analysisIn 2021, we prepared a detailed analysis of vidaXL’s blog section, using the Polish version as an example. The analysis showed that the blog generated only 986 organic clicks over 16 months. We recommended a more structured content setup:Moving the blog to a dedicated platform (e.g. WordPress)Defining buyer personas and a precise topic roadmapImproving UX and post structure with sidebars and product carousels that support conversion  2022Scaling the process across more marketsIn 2022, the project entered a multi-market scaling phase. New countries, including Estonia, Romania, Croatia and Bulgaria, joined the cooperation, and the total scope later grew to 16 markets. Final stageTransition to in-house SEOAfter scaling the project across multiple markets, vidaXL made a strategic decision to continue developing SEO internally. The cooperation ended on positive terms. The client took over a process that had already been structured, tested and developed together with Delante. The approach to off-site strategy, monitoring, reporting and recommendations could then be continued by vidaXL’s in-house team.

After the initial test, we could see that the process was working not only for larger markets, but also for smaller countries. That gave us confidence to continue and expand the cooperation.

What made this an enterprise SEO project?

This was not a single-market project with one domain and one keyword list.

vidaXL needed a process that could work across several language versions at the same time. Each market had different competitors, domain strength, product priorities and seasonal patterns. Since the initial scope was mainly off-site SEO, every action had to be carefully planned and measurable.

The challengeWhat Delante had to proveMulti-market deliveryWork across multiple marketsPer-language strategyBuild separate strategies for each language versionComparable reportingReport results in a comparable wayScalable processScale the process once the test phase was successful

That is why the cooperation grew from 5 markets to 9, and later to 16.

For us, the key challenge was scalability. vidaXL did not need a one-market SEO campaign. They needed a process that could work across many local domains, with different levels of competition, different product priorities and different starting points. That is why we built the project around separate market strategies, daily monitoring and short optimization cycles.

vidaXLOur process1 Separate strategy for each marketWe did not treat the project as one link building campaign copied across countries. Each market had its own priority URLs, keywords and action plan.2 Link building focused on outcomesThe strategy was not built around link volume alone. The goal was to improve rankings, impressions and organic entries for selected pages.3 7-day sprintsWe worked in short cycles, analyzing ranking changes every 7 days and adjusting actions quickly when needed.4 Daily keyword monitoringDaily monitoring helped us identify early movement, catch drops and report progress faster across multiple markets.5 Links as a baseline, not a ceilingThe number of links in the contract was treated as the minimum. When additional links were needed to diversify and strengthen the profile, we created them.6 Link indexing supportWe used external tools to support link indexing and make sure published links had a better chance of being discovered and considered by Google.7Onsite recommendationsAlthough the project started as off-site SEO, it gradually evolved into broader SEO support, including onsite and content recommendations.

In this project, link building had to be much more than link volume. Every market required a different set of priority URLs, keywords, publishers and pace of work. The results came from treating each country separately, while keeping the whole process scalable and comparable for the client.

International SEO needs local execution

The vidaXL case shows that international SEO can scale without losing control over quality.

The key is not to create one generic strategy for all countries. It is to build a process that is repeatable at the management level, but local at the execution level.

For brands expanding across multiple markets, the most important lesson is simple: international SEO needs local strategies, comparable reporting, frequent monitoring and a process that can grow together with the business.

Want to test an SEO agency before scaling internationally?

We can start with selected markets, prepare a separate strategy for each country and show early results within a clearly defined timeframe.
